The UK (specifically England) and the Dominion countries (particularly Australia) have large collections and taking these out of the colonial figures makes a great difference. The UK is by far the largest country collection, it is nearly a quarter larger again than the next largest (Australia).
Stone tools are the least well provenanced and numbered objects in the collections, for many of them guesstimates have had to be made in the database in both areas. This means that the countries such as the UK, Australia and France with large stone tool collections could be miscalculated by a large degree.
As a matter of interest (and aside) we checked those countries which had not objects from them by 1945 to see if they did have objects by 2003. Many did not, there were some items from the Cocos (Keeling) Islands, Norfolk Island, Belize, Qatar and Western Samoa.
